Lieutenant Swanson was
hired by the Henderson
Police Department as a
police officer in 1990.  He
became a Narcotics K-9
handler in 1995.  After
promoting to sergeant in
1998, he was reassigned to
patrol and continued in his
efforts to regain the police
department's patrol dog
program.  In May of 2002,
the patrol dog program
was reestablished, and in
April of 2003, he was
assigned to K-9 full-time.

Lieutenant Swanson's
partner was a four-year-old
Dutch Shepard named
Ranger.  Ranger is from
Europe and all of his
commands are in German.
Ranger is trained as a
patrol K-9 and his main
functions are to search and
locate lost people, hidden
suspects, and building
searches. He is also used
in S.W.A.T. ops.  In addition,
Ranger placed third in
Tactical Obedience 2003.
