Officer Joe Oberding
began his law-enforcement
career in 1995. He was
hired by the Henderson
Police Department in 1998
and was assigned to the
K-9 unit in 2003.
Officer Oberding's partner,
Astor, was born in Holland
on March 1st, 1998. He
came to the United States
in 2002, but not before
having received a
KNPV PH-1 "Met Lof" title
(Royal Dutch Police Dog
Association "with honors"
title), having scored 414
out of a possible 440
points.
Astor's primary
responsibilities were
building searches, finding
suspects in hiding, locating
lost, missing or injured
persons; conducting
evidence searches,
S.W.A.T. ops and attending
special events for various
entities with the
department and community
